Senior Associate Dean for Medical Curriculum
Avery K. Ellis, MD ’77, PhD ’79, MBA, is senior
associate dean for medical curriculum and associate professor of
medicine and physiology. He is responsible for coordinating and
implementing all activities pertaining to the medical
school’s curriculum, including development, educational
research, outcome evaluation and the enhancement of teaching
effectiveness.
Prior to assuming this role in April 2008, Ellis served as chief
of staff at the Veterans Affairs Western New York Healthcare System
and director of the Cardiology Fellowship Program at UB.
A graduate of Cornell University, Ellis received his doctorate
in physiology and his medical degree from UB. He completed his
medical residency and cardiology fellowship at Stanford University
Hospital. In October 1999, he received a master's degree in
business administration from Duke University.
Ellis is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the
American Heart Association and a member of the American Society of
Echocardiography and the New York State Cardiology Society.
