Resident Leave

  • We provide standard allowances with the requirements of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and board certification for vacation, sick leave and paid holidays.

  • Vacation and Sick Leave

    • 20 vacation days are provided on the first day of each academic year for use throughout that same academic year.
    • Unused vacation days do not carry over to the next academic year.
    • 20 sick days are provided on the first day of each academic year.
    • Accrued, unused sick days carry over from one academic year to the next and accumulate for a maximum of one hundred-forty (140) days.

  • Holidays

    Residents may be given a maximum of 10 paid holidays per year provided this does not conflict with Board eligibility requirements. Residents should refer to their program director for the program specific policy related to holiday pay.

  • Leave of Absence

    Residents/fellows may be eligible for leave of absence as found in their employer’s Leave of Absence Policy. Residents/fellows should contact HR at ubgmehr@buffalo.edu for specific information.

  • Effect of Leave on Training

    Any leave of absence that may result in the resident/fellow’s inability to meet Board eligibility requirements for training time will result in an extension of the training program.
