We conduct innovative and relevant research with the goal of making the our department a destination of choice for faculty, learners and patients.
Dr. Lerner leads the only prehospital node of PECARN and serves as Chair of the PECARN Steering Committee.
Her main research contributions have been in field and disaster triage. She led the development of the current national guideline for mass casualty triage and her research, which prospectively enrolled over 12,000 adults and 12,000 children treated by EMS, contributed to the current national field triage guidelines for trauma.
She has significant experience working with local, regional, and national governmental and nongovernmental agencies to assist in interpreting and translating EMS research into practice.
Dr. Clemency serves as director of the Summer Research program for Medical Students. He mentors medical students interested in Emergency Medicine Research as well as clinical participation in Emergency department.
His research focuses on all aspects of prehospital care, with a special interest in confirming or refuting existing paradigms.
Ms. Sanchez manages the research associate program for the department.
She is the department’s expert in ensuring that our projects meet all ethical and regulatory requirements and assists all of our researchers with their Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions.
In her capacity as the supervisor for the Research Associate Program, she oversees research project participant recruitment at Erie County Medical Center and Buffalo General Medical Center
Mr. Hamouda assists the department with extracting hospital data, starting data collection for prospective research in the emergency department and abstracting retrospective medical record data.
He is the Nodal Administrator of the Charlotte, Houston, and Milwaukee Research (CHaMP) Node of the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN) and secretary for the PECARN network and co-chair of the PECARN Feasibility and Budget subcommittee (FAB).
Mr. Patel assists the department in data management using tools like REDCap, as well as executing and implementing research in the department.
