This 583-bed medical center is one of the area’s leading health care providers. It serves as a regional center for trauma, burns, rehabilitation and cardiac care and is the region’s largest safety-net hospital.

Located on the eastern side of Buffalo, this 583-bed acute care center admits patients from the local urban area, as well as a wide referral range that encompasses all eight counties of Western New York.

ECMC is a verified Level 1 Adult Trauma Center and a regional center for burn care, behavioral health services, transplantation, medical oncology and head & neck cancer care, and rehabilitation.

Case presentations span the range of disease states in internal medicine and general surgery, with many critically ill cases.

The hospital’s chemical dependency units, which our faculty staff, are among the region’s largest. ECMC is also the only regional health center that offers 24/7 psychiatry emergency services and chemical dependency evaluations.

Training

You’ll work as part of an interdisciplinary team that includes medical and counseling treatment specialists responsible for ECMC’s 18-bed detoxification unit and 35-bed rehabilitation unit.

You’ll also consult in the 132-bed inpatient psychiatry department and the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), caring for psychiatrically complex patients with comorbid addictions.

Rotations

You may also spend part or all of your time at one of ECMC’s three chemical dependency outpatient clinics during your rotation in outpatient addiction services.
