Why choose a radiation oncology residency at Roswell Park?

Unlike a traditional hospital or clinic, Roswell Park is truly a comprehensive care setting. We’re an inpatient and outpatient hospital, a research institution, and a graduate school. We’re experts in nearly every subspecialty of oncology and hematology.

During your four-year residency, you’ll work with cancer patients across the treatment continuum, from recently diagnosed through active therapies.

Our treatment technology includes Varian TrueBeam™, Elekta Gamma Knife Icon and Superficial/Orthovoltage therapy. Roswell Park also offers a high dose rate (HDR) suite and unsealed radiation sources (SIR-sphere, TheraSphere microspheres).

The residency program at Roswell Park/University at Buffalo provides a robust training experience across many disease sites. After graduating I felt well-prepared to thrive in either academic or private practices, knowing the skills I obtained during residency would be an asset in any setting. As a resident, I felt well supported to pursue academic endeavors and was able to publish several manuscripts, develop clinical trials, and participate and grant applications. The opportunities and wonderful staff at Roswell Park made staying on as faculty after graduating an easy decision.

Clinical Assistant Professor

My residency training at Roswell Park / University at Buffalo was clinically very strong. I felt well-supported throughout my training with one-on-one guidance at all levels throughout the entire department. I felt prepared for Board exams, and the Clinical teams were very helpful in allowing me adequate time to study. Upon graduation, my training prepared me to practice in any setting academic or private and I immediately felt very capable of caring for typical as well as unusual Oncologic cases where radiotherapy was indicated. The practice environment was wonderful and I was treated like a family member, so much so that I elected to stay on as an attending after graduating.

During my residency program at Roswell Park/University at Buffalo, I experienced great mentorship within a tremendously collegial environment. I felt very well prepared upon graduation to practice in either academics or private practice. My clinical responsibilities were well balanced to allow for enough time for board preparation with regards to clinicals, physics, and radiobiology. The entire department works very efficiently and well together and are committed to providing the best care for patients. I would highly recommend the residency program as it provided me with the knowledge and expertise to confidently practice in the field.
