This FOA issued by AHRQ invites grant applications for funding to conduct Large Research Projects (R01) that propose to advance the base of knowledge for detection, prevention, and reduction of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs). The FOA describes the broad areas of HAI research for which funds are available to support Large Research Projects Up to $500,000/year not to exceed five years
Standard due dates through July 2021: 02/5; 06/5; 10/5 AHRQ Health Services Research Projects (R01) PA-18-795. The Research Project Grant (R01) is an award made by AHRQ to an institution/organization to support a discrete, specified health services research project. The project will be performed by the named investigator and study team. The R01 research plan proposed by the applicant institution/organization must be related to the mission and priority research interests of AHRQ Up to $400,000/year, not to exceed five years
Standard due dates through July 2021: 02/16; 06/16; 10/16 AHRQ Small Research Grant Program (R03)

PA-18-794. Small research (R03) grants provide flexibility for initiating studies which are generally for preliminary or short-term projects.  These grants are non-renewable.  Some examples of the types of projects that R03 research supports include:

  • Pilot or feasibility studies

  • Secondary analysis of existing data

  • Small, self-contained research projects

  • Development of research methodology or technology

The AHRQ mission is to produce evidence to make health care safer, higher quality, more ac­cessible, equitable and affordable, and to work with HHS and other partners to make sure that the evidence is understood and used.  Within this mission, AHRQ’s specific priority areas of focus are: Research to improve health care patient safety; harnessing data and technology to improve healthcare quality and patient outcomes and to provide a 360-degree view of the patient; research to increase accessibility and affordability of health care by examining innovative market approaches to care delivery and financing.

Standard due dates through July 2022: 02/12; 06/12; 10/12 AHRQ Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award (K08) PA-17-232. The objective of the  AHRQ Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award (K08) is to support an intensive mentored research career development experience, comprised of didactic study and/or mentored research opportunities in health services research, for individuals with clinical doctoral degrees (e.g., MD, DDS, DMD, DO, DC, OD, ND, DVM, PharmD, or PhD in clinical disciplines) through the provision of salary and research support over a sustained period of “protected time” (3-5 years).  The expectation is that, through this sustained period of research career development and training, awardees will launch independent research careers and become competitive for new research project grant (e.g., R01) funding. Up to $90,000 direct costs per year toward the salary of the career award recipient, not to exceed five years
