Early Assurance Program

Undergraduates accepted to UB medical school through our early assurance program bypass the pressures of the traditional medical school application process, including the MCAT.

If you’re an undergraduate with excellent academic credentials and a commitment to a career in medicine, you may apply to our medical school during the second semester of your sophomore year.

If accepted, you’re assured a spot in our school and would matriculate after completing your senior year.

To be considered for our program, you must have:

  • a GPA of 3.75 in both science and non-science courses
  • at least half of your premedical course requirements completed
  • an SAT score of 1400 or higher
  • a prehealth committee letter of recommendation or three letters of recommendation—at least one from a science professor

How to apply

Read the full application instructions, below.

Fill out and submit both the Early Assurance Program Application and Essential Functions of the Medical School Curriculum documents (below) along with all necessary documents and your application payment to:

Medical Admission
School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences
3435 Main Street 131 BEB
Buffalo, NY 14214-3013

If accepted

If you’re accepted through our early assurance program, we expect that you:

  • maintain a GPA of at least 3.5
  • complete your premedical requirements
  • enroll in at least one science course in each semester of your junior year

Since you’re not required to take the MCAT or invest the substantial time required when applying to multiple medical schools, we encourage you to explore your academic interests during your junior and senior years, thus broadening your college experience.

Application Deadline

You must submit your primary application by Feb. 1 of your sophomore year and your secondary materials by Feb. 15.
