Our integrated curriculum helps you earn your MD and PhD in
seven to eight years.
In the first two years, your training parallels medical students’ with the addition of the MSTP Research Seminar, a course that integrates your clinical and research training from the beginning of your studies. Distinguished university faculty present biweekly seminars on current advances in basic and clinical research across the biological and medical disciplines, and you will participate weekly in a supervised clinical experience.
From this basis, you undertake your thesis research and defense, which takes three to four years:
You must meet all requirements of the UB Graduate School for completion of the PhD degree (specific course requirements vary by department).
You should complete the preliminary/proposition examination
within 12 to 18 months of entering the PhD component. Thereafter,
you are required to complete an original research project and
prepare and defend a dissertation based on this work.
To complete your medical education and earn your MD, you return
to our standard third and fourth year medical curriculum, with the
MSTP Research Seminar integrated alongside your other
