Burstein: Winkelstein Research Shows ‘Orange’ Designation Working

Updated December 10, 2020

Gale R. Burstein, MD, Erie County commissioner of health and a clinical professor of pediatrics, said there is evidence the Orange Zone designations are working. Peter Winkelstein, MD, clinical professor of pediatrics and executive director of UB’s Institute for Healthcare Informatics, conducted research that shows the Orange Zone is having a direct affect on hospitalizations. “The curve is not as steep as it was before we all went into the Orange Zone … We have seen some small effect with hospital admissions; the rate of rise is not as fast as it has been before the orange zone,” says Burstein.
