8 Departments Welcome New Faculty

Eight faculty members with diverse backgrounds and expertise have joined the school’s faculty over the past several months.

Ferdinand Schweser, PhD, is an assistant professor whose research focuses include neurodegenerative disorders, neuroimaging, neuroradiology and radiological physics.

Schweser was named a junior fellow of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine for his early-career research. He comes to the University at Buffalo from Jena University Hospital in Germany, where he was a research associate.

Oleg Kovalenko, MD, is a clinical assistant professor.

Kovalenko comes to UB from Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland, where he was director of pediatric electrophysiology and device service. He also was an assistant professor of pediatric cardiology and pediatric electrophysiology.

Evelyn M. Coggins, MD ’92, is a clinical assistant professor.

Coggins specializes in forensic psychiatry.

Nischala Dhanekula, MD, is a clinical assistant professor.

Dhanekula specializes in internal medicine. 

Masashi Ohira, MD, PhD, is a clinical instructor.

Ohira joined the faculty after completing the Department of Family Medicine's residency training program.

Tilman Baumstark, PhD, is a research associate professor.

Miriam Huang, MD, is a clinical assistant professor.

Donald E. Higgs, MD, PhD, is a clinical assistant professor.
