The Laureate Award honors members of the ACP who “have demonstrated an abiding commitment of excellence in medical care, education or research and in service to their community, their region and the ACP.”

“It was an honor to be recognized by an organization that has dedicated itself to patient care and physician education,” Fudyma says. “Words cannot adequately express my gratitude to everyone who supported me over my career that allowed me to receive this recognition.”

Fudyma, an internist with UBMD Internal Medicine, has had a varied career, focusing on medical education, quality improvement and patient safety, with a special interest in public health and serving the community.

He first became a UB faculty member in 1989. From 2004 to 2008, he served as chief medical officer for the Erie County Medical Center (ECMC). He served in the same role with the Seneca Nation Health Department from 2008 to 2011.

In 2010, Fudyma received a master’s of public health degree from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University.

Fudyma received honorable mention in UB’s 2016 Louis A. and Ruth Siegel Awards, as a teacher in the clinical program.

An alumnus of the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, he completed his residency in internal medicine at UB and served as chief resident and associate program director of residency training at UB.
