Translational research transforms scientific findings or discoveries from basic/natural science laboratories, clinical research, or social science studies into clinical guidelines and evidence-based practice. This workshop aims to highlight the nursing perspective and contributions to translational research. Basic/natural science, translational, clinical researchers and health care providers and other interested parties are welcomed to attend.

Dr. Sommers obtained her PhD in Nursing Science and Physiology and three of her six RO1s have been in the area of health disparities in physiological outcomes related to sexual assault in women. She has been appointed as at the National Health Institute Chair of the Health Disparities and Equity Promotion Section from 2014-2016. Additionally, she has been director for a T32 which focuses on research training for vulnerable women, children and families.
