The next Academic Symposium* is August 16, 2017, 11:30 AM, ECMC, Conference Room 1180A. Dr. Isok Kim, PhD, LCSW, Assistant Professor of Social Work will be presenting on the “Understanding Refugees from Burma: Behavioral Health Needs among Diverse Ethnic Groups” The presentation will cover basic information about Burma and its people, decades-old interethnic tensions that precipitated the refugee crisis, and subsequent resettlement of refugees from Burma. Then he will share a finding from his study on ethnic differences in terms of behavioral health needs.

*The Department of Psychiatry’s Academic Symposium is intended to provide a forum for promoting scholarly collaboration and activity in the Department. All residents, faculty and other trainees are invited and encouraged to attend. The topics range from reviews of current important topics in psychiatry to the presentation of specific scholarly projects of relevance to the field. Presenters come from both within and outside the Department of Psychiatry and we welcome interested faculty and trainees from outside the Department to present or attend this conference. The symposium recurs on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 11:30 AM-1:00 PM in Conference Room 1180A, ECMC and does not meet in July and December. Lunch is provided.
