Presentation:

Posttranscriptional Regulation of Oral Immunity and the Microbiome (Kieth L. Kirkwood, DDS, PhD): A dynamic and coordinately regulated gene expression program lies at the heart of the inflammatory processes in response to distinct external stimuli. The potential of these responses to drive oral pathological inflammation and tissue damage highlights the need for rigorous control of these responses. Although transcriptional control of inflammatory gene expression has been studied extensively, the importance of post-transcriptional regulation of these processes is less well-defined. This work in progress will focus on the significance of a major RNA binding protein, tristetraprolin, that controls mRNA stability of multiple inflammatory genes and how this protein is critical for oral immunity and microbiome.

These informal talks are part of the GEM Work-in-Progress series held at 4:00 p.m. on the 4th Monday of each month. The location rotates among the Downtown Medical, North and South campuses. The speaker schedule is on the GEM website (www.buffalo.edu/gem).

If you would like to present at a GEM Work-in-Progress session, let us know (coe-gem@buffalo.edu) and we will get you onto the schedule.
