New Resident/Fellow Orientation

Education Session Information for Incoming Residents (June 22-26, 2020)

The Monday Virtual Welcome will begin at 7:30. We look forward to welcoming all of you at this time and introducing you to UB Jacobs School and GME leadership as well as topics and ideas we value.

Each education session will have a small amount of pre-work to be reviewed the night before the session in preparation for the morning’s discussions.

Education sessions will be held Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 am – 9:00 am. These sessions have been created to not only allow for learning but also to encourage you to get to know your colleagues. Two links for each day are listed on your individual schedule and will remain the same for the duration of the week. One link is for a large group session with all 200 new incoming residents, and one is for a smaller group with approximately 18 residents from a variety of specialties. You are expected to attend all sessions.

  • From Tuesday-Thursday you will join the large group session first – and this link appears first on your schedule. Once dismissed from the large group Zoom meeting, you will immediately join the second, smaller Zoom discussion group, which is the second link on your schedule. These smaller groups will be led by the same Jacobs’ school faculty facilitator and include the same group of new resident colleagues for the duration of the week.
  • Friday’s education sessions will begin with the small discussion groups and end with the large group. Just follow the links in the order provided on your individual schedule each day. The week’s educational activities will conclude with a UB GME tradition, a (virtual) Long White Coat Ceremony.

When logging into the Zoom discussion groups each day, please use these best practices:

  1. Attend these Zoom sessions via a desk top or laptop, as it allows for optimal viewing of participants and materials
  2. Click on the specific Zoom link for each session that is included on your individual schedule, in the order of appearance
  3. Use your full name and program when signing in, use the “Rename” feature in zoom if needed by right-clicking on your picture
  4. Enable your device camera and participate via video
  5. Mute yourself on entry, then be prepared to unmute throughout the session and contribute to discussions

GME leaders and faculty look forward to engaging with you throughout the week!
