Kevin J. Gibbons, MD.

Kevin J. Gibbons, MD, is responsible for optimizing the performance of the medical school’s clinical programs, fostering an excellent training ground for future physicians and, in turn, helping to ensure both the present and future health of our community.

Gibbons is also executive director of UB Associates (UBA)/UBMD Physicians Group (UBMD). As such, he will oversee the clinical program, the implementation of the organization’s strategic vision and the relationships UBMD has with the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and partner institutions.

In his joint position, Gibbons undertakes duties including developing and implementing a clinical service strategic plan, supervising the staff of UBA/UBMD, liaising with community partners and overseeing practice plan collaborations.

Gibbons serves as well as medical director, operational performance and physician director of surgical services at Buffalo General Medical Center and Gates Vascular Institute (GVI). He is chief of neurosurgery for Kaleida Health and is a member of the Kaleida Health GVI Physician Leadership Board and the Kaleida Health Board of Directors.

An accomplished neurosurgeon, Gibbons’ areas of expertise and research include the surgical treatment of brain tumors, spinal and pituitary tumors, complex cervical disorders, critical care and adult hydrocephalus. His research has been published in major journals in his field.

For 15 years, Gibbons directed the Department of Neurosurgery’s residency program, ranked one of the nation’s top neurosurgery training programs.

Gibbons completed his residency in neurological surgery and a fellowship in surgical critical care at the University at Buffalo. He received his bachelor’s degree in microbiology from the University of Notre Dame and his medical degree from Albany Medical College.
