Difficult Discussions

Students in discussion.

As a community, and as a profession, we are called upon to be comfortable having difficult conversations. However, studies report that many physicians avoid difficult conversations because they feel they lack communication skills.

The Center sponsors several discussions each year for us to come together and talk about controversial or divisive topics in a safe space.

The first-year orientation vignette about privilege began as one of the Center's Difficult Discussions. Other topics have included Islam and Islamophobia, second generation Americans caught between two cultures, and more.
