November 12-18 marks the CDC and World Health Organization's antibiotics awareness week. For the third consecutive year, the UB GEM Community of Excellence is partnering with the NYS Erie County Department of Health, the CTSI Community Engagement Core, and student volunteers from the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences to distribute thousands of Mind Your Microbiome & Be Antibiotics Aware brochures and posters (available in English and Spanish) to local pharmacies, medical clinics, public libraries, and DMV offices. New this year, students from the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists group at UB will offer wellness clinics at several local Tops Pharmacies, featuring GEM's "Alex's Antibiotics" demonstration on proper antibiotics use for bacterial illnesses.

On Wednesday, November 14, GEM is partnering with the Buffalo Museum of Science to offer a special lecture on antimicrobial resistance from public health and microbiome research perspectives. This event is for all ages and is free with Museum admission. More details in the attached flyer.
