UB GME Quality Improvement/Patient Safety (QIPS) Committee

The QIPS Committee is charged with ensuring residents and faculty members understand, participate in, and feel responsible for the quality of patient care delivered in clinical settings.

The UB GME Committee and the ACGME expect that residents and fellows are integrated into the health systems to participate in identifying and responding to patient safety concerns and quality issues.

The QI/PS committee includes representatives from all of the Jacobs School GME sites.

Specific charges of the QIPS Committee include:

  1. Recommend strategies to improve how UB GME clinical sites engage resident and fellow physicians in learning to provide safe, high quality patient care.
  2. Identify opportunities for residents to participate in QI/PS efforts that align with the needs of the clinical learning environments.
  3. Recommend strategies for developing resident and faculty knowledge and skills in QI/PS.
  4. Identify local and national QIPS experts to serve as visiting lecturers or workshop leaders.
  5. Participate in the review and selection of awardees for the annual GME-funded QI/PS Awards.
  6. Ensure that resident/fellow clinical performance data is available and regularly disseminated to trainees.
