The department’s associated research centers include:


Director: Vasanth Kumar, MD

Conducts translational research to prevent and treat disorders of pulmonary transition such as birth asphyxia, persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN), transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTN) and respiratory distress syndrome (RDS).


Medical Director: Michelle Hartley-McAndrew, MD

Research encompasses neurobiology of children with autism spectrum disorders; concurrent seizure disorders; epileptiform abnormalities; etiology; screening and evaluation techniques.


Directors: Danielle Goetz, MD (pediatric) and Carla A. Frederick, MD (adult)

Has participated in more than 40 clinical trials and has helped bring several drugs through development to clinical use for patients with CF, focusing on inhaled antibiotics, mucoactive drugs and CFTR potentiators and correctors.


Director: Teresa Quattrin, MD

Participates in the T1 Diabetes Exchange research network and registry and conducts translational research into obesity and the prevention and control of Type 1 and 2 diabetes.


Director: Paul J. Isackson, PhD

Performs clinical and basic research in conjunction with a clinical diagnostics laboratory, including novel mutation detection in metabolic muscle diseases; genotype-phenotype correlations for disease-causing mutations; and a study seeking to identify genetic variants associated with statin myopathy.
