New Student Checklist

Here is how to ensure a smooth start at UB. This step-by-step guide will assist you in navigating the process of successfully getting started. 

1. Register for Orientation

Orientation will introduce you to graduate life at the medical school and prepare you for a successful start at UB. Orientation will take place over 2 days, on Thursday and Friday before classes begin.

2. Submit Final Documentation

All newly enrolled students must submit all official transcripts and proof of bachelor’s degree conferral to verify the scanned, unofficial transcripts submitted during the application process.

3. Get Your UB Card

Your UB Card is your official identification card for the University at Buffalo. You must upload a picture for your UB Card before orientation. This is required to gain access to the building.

4. Claim Your UBIT Account

Before you can connect to the many tools, resources, and services on campus, you must activate your UBITName account.

5. Provide Proof of Immunization and Finalize Health Insurance

You must complete and submit the University’s Health Background Form as soon as possible. You cannot register for classes until you have submitted your proof of immunization.

6. Take Care of Any Additional Account Holds

You may do this by signing in to MyUB and viewing your “holds” box. You must claim your UBITName account before you can sign in to MyUB.

7. Register for Parking and Review NFTA Information

NFTA access passes and parking permits for the North and South Campuses for the are included in the transportation fee.

8. Complete Sexual Assault Prevention Training

The University at Buffalo requires all new graduate students to pass "Sexual Assault Prevention for Graduate Students,” an online education requirement.

9. Review Billing and Financial Aid

Individual financial aid advising sessions regarding federal and state loans are available with financial aid advisors through the UB Financial Aid Office.
