Anyango Kamina, PhD.

Anyango Kamina, PhD, is interim unit diversity officer and assistant dean for student development and academic enhancement. She will focus on continuing to build upon the success of the diversity and inclusion programs.

She is director of the Natural Sciences Interdisciplinary Master’s Program, and an active participant in several committees focused on improving the learning environment, such as the Diversity Inclusion and Learning environment (DIALE) committee and ones that are focused on increasing the Jacobs School’s engagement with our neighboring communities. 

Kamina is a graduate of the PhD Program in Biomedical Sciences (PPBS) at the Jacobs School, where she received her doctoral degree in microbiology and immunology. She has held various leadership roles at the Jacobs School focused on recruitment and retention, as well as creating an inclusive learning environment for our trainees. These include, her role as the program coordinator for the Institute for Strategic Enhancement of Educational Diversity (iSEED), an initiative that provides professional development and funding opportunities to trainees who are underrepresented in STEM. 

She was also the program coordinator for the Early Opportunity Program in Medicine (EOPIM). In this role, she was integral in sustaining and strengthening relationships with partner schools dedicated to recruiting students who are underrepresented in medicine to apply to the program.
