Hoylan Fernandez, MD, MPH, was fellowship trained in abdominal transplant surgery, live donor liver transplantation, auto islet cell transplant and hepatobiliary surgery at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas. She began her medical career at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. She completed a research fellowship at the University of Chicago in the department of General Surgery where she was awarded an NIH Minority Student Research Grant, the AOA Carolyn L. Kuckein Student Research Fellowship, and a Fentress Fellowship Award. She then went on to complete her general surgery internship and residency at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. She ihas previously served as member of various committees for ASTS, UNOS and AASLD. Over Dr. Fernandez's career, she has published several peer-reviewed articles and given many oral and poster presentations on various topics such as live donor transplantation, transplant finances, and transplant outcomes. She has an interest in racial/ethnic health disparities, liver/bile duct cancers, pancreatic cancer, and living donors.
