Meet Alexandra DiVasta, MD ’25, Orthopaedics Resident

Alexandra DiVasta, MD ’25, is a trainee in the orthopaedics residency program.

She was born and raised in Rochester, NY, and attended Ithaca College where she initially studied physical therapy. She earned her medical degree from the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo.

When looking at orthopaedic residency programs, what qualities were most important to you?

The most important qualities for me when looking at programs was the quality of education and hands-on experience you received, as well as the camaraderie amongst co-residents and faculty. I think one of the most important ways to avoid burnout at the workplace is enjoying the people around you, as well as enjoying what you do.

What specific attributes about UB’s program appealed to you the most? Did earning your MD at the Jacobs School have an impact on your decision?

I felt the program was very team-oriented and I felt like I was contributing even as a medical student. I was able to get hands-on experience in both the operating room and helping to see consults that allowed me to stand out on away rotations at other programs.

Are there aspects of our orthopaedics residency you particularly enjoy?

I particularly enjoy days in the operating room with my other co-residents. You can see from other residents how much they have grown and learned over their time here and they are more than happy to pass that knowledge along to you while helping to build your skills as a surgeon.

What do you like best about living in Buffalo?

The best part of living in Buffalo is the community. The “City of Good Neighbors” really holds true in daily interactions I have while in the workplace and in the community.
