Clinical Psychology
As a clinical psychologist, I focus on biological, psychological, and social influences on people’s mental health and wellbeing. I understand that physical health and healthcare settings both impact and are impacted by psychological health. I enjoy working with people across the lifespan, especially those who have physical health conditions, as well as health care professionals, graduate students, and professional trainees.
Prior to joining the University at Buffalo (UB), I worked in teaching hospitals in the United Kingdom to support patients with serious and long-term health conditions, including those who were going through stem cell transplants, as well as patients with cystic fibrosis. In that capacity, I consulted with multi-disciplinary healthcare teams to improve patients’ wellbeing both in and out of the hospital. In addition, I previously worked at Michigan State University and supported veterinary trainees for more than 15 years. I recognize the impact that healthcare providers’ wellbeing can have on the needs of their patients.
In the UB Department of Psychiatry UB, I provide direct clinical care to patients, as well as clinical teaching and supervision to trainees, including psychology practicum students and doctoral interns. My professional work is shared between Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) and the UB/MD Center for Advanced Psychiatry. At ECMC, I am a member of the psychology training program and am exploring ways that consultation liaison psychology can help patients and medical teams in the hospital. At the UB/MD Center for Advanced Psychiatry, I use cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based psychological interventions to improve the lives of adults and adolescents who are experiencing a range of mental health conditions, including depression and anxiety.
