James Wyche, PhD, provost and chief academic officer at Howard
University, was honored speaker at the undergraduate and graduate
biomedical sciences commencement.
Teachers in pediatrics, pathology and anatomical sciences,
family medicine and surgery received Louis A. and Ruth Siegel
Awards at this year’s ceremony.
The $400,000 award furthers Gabriela Popescu’s efforts to
find drugs that allow NMDA receptors to perform essential brain
functions while stopping signals that are toxic to brain cells in
stroke and neurodegenerative disease.
Two students researching brain receptors in the lab of Gabriela
K. Popescu, PhD, have received funding from UB’s Center for
Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities.
