I am a board-certified neurologist with advanced training in stroke and cerebrovascular diseases. My clinical practice focuses on the comprehensive care of hospitalized patients and outpatients with cerebrovascular diseases, such as ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, brain aneurysm and arteriovenous malformation. My inpatient practice is located at the Gates Vascular Institute and Buffalo General Medical Center. I care for hospitalized patients at these locations until they are discharged, and then I care for my patients with follow-up visits at our UBMD outpatient clinic on main street in Williamsville,NY.
My research interests focus on extending the lifetime and quality of life for stroke patients; acute stroke treatment; stroke prevention in those who have experienced transient ischemic attack (TIA) and stroke; stroke imaging and the critical care of patients with cerebrovascular diseases.
Our comprehensive stroke at Buffalo general hospital/Gates vascular Institute has treated more strokes than any other hospital in the New York State and is one of the largest in the nation. We have been heavily engaged in cutting-edge clinical and translational research in the field of stroke and cerebrovascular diseases for years and have been one of the pivotal enrolling sites for many of the ground-breaking multicenter clinical trials for acute stroke treatment and stroke secondary prevention including CREST,PRISMS, SHINE, NAVIGATE ESUS, SAMMPRIS, SWIFT PRIME, etc.
In addition, my team and I are currently conducting a research project on the outcome and safety of intravenous thrombolysis alone and also in combination with endovascular treatment on the patients who have been treated with IV thrombolysis for acute ischemic stroke in our comprehensive stroke center. In this project, we are investigating different variables associated with outcome and safety of those treatments in stroke patients.
I also mentor our trainees on their research projects, and I teach medical students, residents in adult neurology and fellows in stroke and vascular neurology.
