Professional Summary:

I am a neurologist with a specialized focus in vascular disorders of the nervous system, primarily the paradigm of stroke including prevention, acute treatment, recovery, and management of its long-term complications.

My research interests include the investigation of novel therapeutic strategies for patients with severe intracranial stenosis, the correlation between statin use and APOE genotype with recurrent intracranial hemorrhage, assessing the impact of treating sleep apnea on recovery and prevention of recurrent stroke, the safety and timing of re-introducing anticoagulants in intracranial hemorrhage survivors who have non-valvular atrial fibrillation, and I am an active co-investigator in several NIH funded StrokeNet clinical trials.

I am heavily engaged in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows on the wards and in the lecture halls. I’m also an active educator in the simulation center at Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, which offers one of the nation’s few simulation programs for acute neurological emergencies involving both students and residents.
