Two Pediatric Surgeons Join UB

Pediatric surgeons Kathryn D. Bass, MD, and Doruk E. Ozgediz, MD, have joined UB’s faculty and Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo (WCHOB).
Kathryn D. Bass, MD, serves as a UB clinical associate professor of surgery and pediatrics and director of trauma at WCHOB. She earned her undergraduate and medical degrees at Northwestern University, after which she trained in general surgery at New England Medical Center and in pediatric surgery at The Children’s Hospital, in Denver, Colorado. She is board certified in general and pediatric surgery, and her clinical interests include teaching, research, minimally invasive surgery, morbid obesity and pediatric trauma.
Prior to coming to Buffalo, Bass served as associate professor of surgery at the University of North Texas Health Science Center and as adjunct assistant clinical professor at University of Texas Arlington. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Pediatric Surgical Association, American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, American College of Surgeons, Association of Women Surgeons, International Pediatric Endoscopy Group, and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Doruk Ozgediz, MD, has been appointed UB clinical assistant professor of surgery.
He earned his undergraduate degree at Harvard University and his medical degree at the University of California at San Francisco. He also holds a master’s degree in public health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Ozgediz completed his general surgery training at the University of California, San Francisco and his pediatric surgery training at The Hospital for Sick Children, in Toronto, Canada.
His is clinical interests include global health, public health, surgery in developing countries, poverty and health, medical and surgical education, health services research, injury and trauma, emergency surgery, pediatric surgery and disaster medicine.
Ozgediz is board certified in general surgery and board eligible in pediatric surgery. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Public Health Association and American Pediatric Surgical Association International committee.
