Five students will be selected annually to receive the Zannoni Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF), which encourages careers in pharmacological or pharmaceutical sciences and aims to help undergraduates gain research experience.
The fellowship has been made possible through funding secured by Margarita L. Dubocovich, PhD, professor and chair of pharmacology and toxicology.
It is supported by the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics and funding for the fellowship will continue through 2015.
SURF fellows are participants of a biosciences mentoring program called the Collaborative Learning and Integrated Mentoring in the Biosciences Undergraduate Program (CLIMB UP).
The summer program highlights graduate school opportunities and enables undergraduates to conduct biomedical and health sciences research.
Dubocovich, who is also senior associate dean for inclusion and cultural enhancement, directs CLIMB UP.
