McCormack, professor of emergency medicine, has served as interim chair of the department since January.

McCormack’s research interests include acute onset headache and subarachnoid hemorrhage, emergency department management and cardiovascular emergencies — such as cardiac exercise stress testing by emergency physicians.

He also focuses on resident education as well as deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism diagnosis and treatment.

McCormack, who has published peer-reviewed articles in his areas of interest, has lectured nationally and internationally.

He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors — including induction into the Beta Gamma Sigma National Business Honor Society in 2014 — and he was a keynote speaker for the Alpha Epsilon Delta PreHealth Honor Society Induction Ceremony in 2014.

In 2011 he received the Kaleida Health Spirit Award, which is given for significant support of the organization as it seeks to improve the health of the Western New York community.

New Chairs Are Critical to Vision for School’s Future

Cain has named 16 new chairs and chair-level appointees since he became dean in 2006.

He says they are a critical piece of his strategic vision for the medical school’s future, especially as the new medical school building — set to open in 2017 — takes shape on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.
