Two residents in the Department of Medicine won top awards for poster presentations of their research involving quality improvement measures at an abstract competition hosted by the New York Chapter of the American College of Physicians (NYACP).
Second-year resident Aishwarya Bhardwaj, MD, received first place for her poster, on a study involving atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, entitled “Increasing Use of ASCVD Risk Calculator in a Primary Care Setting.”
Third-year resident Mansi Nigam, MD, received a second-place award for her poster, on a study involving obstructive sleep apnea, entitled “Improving OSA Screening in Hypertensive Patients using STOP BANG Questionnaire in Primary Care Clinic.”
Both posters were entered in the category of Resident/Fellow Patient Safety, Quality and Outcomes Measurement.
Bhardwaj and Nigam are among the 16 residents who work in the Internal Medicine Clinic at Erie County Medical Center under Smita Y. Bakhai, MD, MPH, clinic medical director and assistant professor of medicine.
The NYACP Resident and Medical Student Forum was held Nov. 5 at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. The chapter received 251 abstract proposals and accepted 136 for presentation at the event.
