Levy, professor and chair of UB’s Department of Neurosurgery, will start his three-year term on the editorial review board this summer.

Overseeing New Section’s Manuscript Review

In this role, Levy will serve as primary chairperson for the journal’s new endovascular section, overseeing manuscript review. Between five and 10 associate editors will assist Levy as primary reviewers.

He also will contribute an editorial to the journal during his term.

Nelson Oyesiku, MD, Neurosurgery’s editor-in-chief, chose Levy for his “obvious dedication” to the field of endovascular surgery and for distinguishing himself as a “highly valuable and worthy” ad hoc reviewer for the journal.

Editorial Role Adds to Accomplishments

Levy joined UB’s faculty in 2004; he was named chair of neurosurgery in 2013. He also serves as a professor of radiology.

His accomplishments at UB include helping develop endovascular stroke care and pioneering a method for performing minimally invasive spinal surgery.

Levy’s clinical research focuses on quality outcomes following stroke intervention and the effectiveness of stroke imaging in predicting endovascular outcomes following treatment.

He has served, and currently serves, as principal investigator on national and international stroke trials.

He has published more than 300 scholarly articles.

Founded Organization to Study Youth Concussions

Levy is co-director of the Kaleida Health Stroke Care Center and the medical director of neuroendovascular services at Gates Vascular Institute.

Levy also works as a neurotrauma consultant for the NFL.

In 2011, Levy founded PUCCS, a national organization to boost research into youth concussions. To date, PUCCS has raised $300,000 for the cause.
