Children are remarkable. As a pediatrician, I believe we have the privilege of changing the entire trajectory of a child’s life by intervening early.
During my medical school journey, I was amazed how rapidly children respond to treatments. Children possess an incredible resilience and capacity to heal, and being part of that process is profoundly fulfilling. Pediatrics allows me to make a lasting impact at the very beginning of life, and that sense of purpose continues to motivate me.
The best part of my residency experience has been the welcoming and supportive culture in our residency program that made me feel valued from the start. We have a great diversity among residents that gave me an opportunity to learn from people with different backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives from around the world.
Another great aspect of the program is the vast clinical exposure and the opportunity to learn from various pediatric subspecialties, thanks to the many in-house fellowships.
Since pediatrics relies on trust, focus on your communication skills so you can switch easily between playful interactions with kids and serious talks with parents. Choose a program with multiple in-house subspecialties to get hands-on experience and find what you enjoy most.
It is also important to choose a place with a diverse community and a supportive team that fits your personality. Finally, find a program that feels like a good home while you grow as a doctor.
As someone who admires history and nature, I love that Buffalo is a blend of both. Coming from a different culture, I appreciate how welcoming everyone has been; the "City of Good Neighbors" isn't just a name, it's something I feel here.
I enjoy exploring the beautiful parks and the old, historic buildings that give the city a unique vibe. It is wonderful to live in a place that has such a diverse community and treats everyone like they belong.
