Meet Sofia Rachad, MD, Obstetrics and Gynecology Resident

A native of Casablanca, Morocco, Sofia Rachad, MD, is a trainee in the obstetrics and gynecology residency program.

She earned her medical degree from Albany Medical College and also holds a Master of Science degree in phsyiology and biophysics from Stony Brook University.

Rachad earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York.

When looking at obstetrics and gynecology residency programs, what qualities were most important to you?

I was looking for a program that featured a high-risk patient population, high volume, strong gynecological surgery training and supportive co-residents.

What specific attributes about UB’s program appealed to you the most?

Our large catchment area, significant exposure to robotic surgery training and serving a diverse patient population, including refugees. I also liked the program’s strong sense of community and the bonds that exist amongst its residents.

Can you talk about the benefits of the program having a diversity of clinical training sites and a diverse set of patients?

UB’s diverse clinical training sites prepare you to work in a fast-paced environment, taking care of a diversified mix of patients with complex social and medical needs.

What I love best about living in Buffalo is my kind and caring neighbors.
