We’re part of a statewide initiative to encourage minority and economically disadvantaged high school students to pursue careers in medicine and other health-related professions.
If you’re accepted into our Biomedical Science and Technology Entry Program (Medical STEP), you will meet on campus from 10:00am – 2:30pm each Saturday during the school year for formalized academic instruction and laboratory exercises.
During these sessions you will attend science, math and technology classes where you will:
We also offer thrice-weekly tutoring sessions (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) if you’re in need of extra academic support. If your school grades fall below a 75 average, you’re required to attend.
Approximately 42 students from the Buffalo region high schools participate in our program annually.
As a Medical STEP student, you may continue exploring your career interests during our six-week summer program. You will work or conduct research at UB-affiliated hospitals or clinics four days a week. Our summer program also includes required classroom instruction and college admissions preparatory sessions one day a week. (We also accept 10 middle school students (grades 7 and 8) during the summer program.)
We accept applications for our program throughout the year. If you’re interested in joining, complete the application and return it to the address indicated.
