Honors and Awards

The Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences celebrated scientific achievements, outstanding service and significant teaching contributions during its 2017 Faculty and Staff Recognition Awards event May 18.

Thirty-eight doctoral, 28 master’s and 183 baccalaureate candidates were eligible to receive degrees in biomedical science fields during the May commencement ceremony.

Twenty-four medical students, three residents and one faculty member have joined the University at Buffalo’s chapter of the national honor medical society Alpha Omega Alpha.

At the 2017 Medical Student Research Forum, aspiring physician-scientists showcased 46 original research projects they conducted at the University at Buffalo, its partner health care agencies and institutions nationwide.

Researchers from the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences have won Clinical Research Achievement Awards in a competition that recognizes promising advances in clinical research.

Three students in the MD-PhD Program have received prestigious fellowships from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Eight faculty and one staff member from the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences were among those honored for notable achievement and service at the 13th annual University at Buffalo Celebration of Faculty and Staff Academic Excellence. 

Nicholas J. Silvestri, MD, program director of the University at Buffalo’s adult neurology residency, and Emily Caldarelli, training program administrator for the hematology and oncology fellowship, have received UB Graduate Medical Education (GME) Awards of Excellence.

Forty-four exemplary medical students, residents, fellows and faculty members have been inducted into the University at Buffalo’s Richard Sarkin Medical Emeritus Faculty Chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS).
