Our Annual Beyond the Knife in Social Justice and Health Equity
endowed lecture will be held on Feb. 5, 2026 the reception starts at 5 p.m. and the lecture will begin at 5:45 p.m. in the M&T Lecture Hall, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

Andrea A. Hayes-Dixon, MD, FACS, FAAP
Andrea A. Hayes-Dixon, MD, FACS, FAAP, is the dean of the Howard University College of Medicine. She was appointed as the first Black woman to serve as dean of the Howard University College of Medicine in 2022.
In 2024, she was appointed chair of the Scientific Management Review Board at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Before joining Howard University, Hayes-Dixon served as the Surgeon-in-Chief and Division Chief of Pediatric Surgery at the University of North Carolina Children's Hospital, where she was also a professor of Pediatric Surgery and Surgical Oncology.
In 2004 Hayes-Dixon became the first African American woman in the nation to achieve board certification in pediatric surgery.
