This fellowship supports rising second-year medical student summer research projects with UB-affiliated faculty members.
The Dean’s Research Fellowship supports up to six medical students who are conducting summer research projects with UB-affiliated faculty. Students must be between their first and second years of medical school. Students without prior research experience are welcome and encouraged to apply.

We encourage you to attend the Dean’s Summer Research Fellowship/Proposal Writing noontime session to learn about writing a research proposal and the spring Meet and Greet to help you identify a potential research sponsor. Information on both of these sessions will be sent to first-year students through email and typically occur in mid-January.
You must find a research sponsor and set up a research experience before you apply.
Once you’ve identified a research sponsor, work with that faculty member to prepare your application for consideration. Each of the following documents must be completed as part of your application.
You must also submit three paper copies of each document to the Office of Student and Academic Affairs.
As a chosen candidate for the Dean’s Summer Research Fellowship, you must:
Selection criteria include the strength of your research proposal, the value of the research to your knowledge base and your ability to complete the research in the allotted time.
Awardees will be selected in mid-March and notified in late March.
