Becker’s Hospital Review has named Kara M. Kelly, chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Pediatrics in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and chair of the Department of Pediatric Oncology at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, to its list of top leaders in health care.

As lean sources of protein, complex carbohydrates and fiber, beans are known worldwide as providing lots of nutritional power at a very affordable price. Now, a University at Buffalo study suggests that when consumed in chili during pregnancy, beans may help lower one’s risk for gestational diabetes.

The Food and Drug Administration’s approval on Dec. 19, 2019, of a fast-acting insulin for children with diabetes mellitus came about with the help of researchers and providers at UB, UBMD Pediatrics and Oishei Children’s Hospital, as well as some highly committed Western New York families.

Rare Disease Day is an international initiative aimed at raising awareness of rare diseases by sharing the experiences of patients and presenting groundbreaking research toward treating and, in some cases, eradicating the diseases. UB hosted an event to raise awarness of rare diseases and highligh our local success stories. Meagan L. Collins Hutchinson, left, and Linda K.
