Heart Smart educates elementary students about the heart and healthy lifestyles, encouraging their interest in the biological sciences and medicine.
Once or twice a month, members of this organization visit a school in the area to teach fourth and fifth graders about the heart and heart health. At each event, students can look at radiographs, use stethoscopes, find pulses, learn about atherosclerosis and look at and touch real hearts donated to UB.
To welcome new students and encourage them to participate in Heart Smart, the organization sponsors an annual breakfast during orientation.
The Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and its student groups and organizations welcome everyone and are committed to an open, inclusive environment.
