The Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences had a strong showing at the New York State Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ annual meeting, which took place Sept. 6 in Verona, NY.
At the event, medical students, residents, a recent graduate, and a faculty member — Dustin Morgan, MD, clinical assistant professor of orthopaedics — from the Department of Orthopaedics attended and presented abstracts and posters. Covering a range of topics in orthopaedic medicine, 17 of the 52 posters presented featured presenters with ties to UB.
Medical student Alexander Yunke received the Clinical Research Award for research titled “Pre-Operative Use of GLP-1 Agonists Does Not Increase the Odds of Aspiration Following Femur Fracture Repair in Adults.”
Ellen E. Lutnick, MD ’21, a fourth-year resident, received the Quality, Equity and Advocacy Award for her abstract titled “Influence of a Sub-Internship Preparation Course on Medical Student Preparedness for Sub-Internships.”
In addition to Lutnick, fourth-year resident Thomas Listopadzki, MD, and second-year resident Timothy Whelan, MD, presented research projects. Medical students who shared research included Yunke, Joseph Barbarino, Danil Chernov, Abigail Contello, Eoin Joseph Devoy, Morgan Dillon, Nicholas Frappa, Charlie Stube and Alexandra Wadhwani. Alexander MacFarlane, MD, a 2024 Jacobs School graduate, also presented research.
