Peer Mentorship

Peer mentorship offers an opportunity for existing upper-level students to provide guidance and insight to first-year students. Mentors are experienced college students who can help foster connections to the school community, other students, and valuable resources. They can help students navigate the college landscape, and serve as a role model and resource while easing the transition from high school to college.

Prospective Mentors

Required Qualifications

  • will have junior or senior status in the year serving as a mentor
  • have a 3.0 overall GPA at the time of application.=
  • remain in good academic standing during their tenure
  • be in good disciplinary standing
  • possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • be self-motivated and possess a positive attitude

Required Responsibilities & Expectations

  • commit to serve as a mentor for the entire academic year, including training during the summer
  • attend Fall & Spring Welcome event
  • participate in workshops throughout the semester
  • reach out to assigned mentees before the welcome event, at the start of each semester, at least once a month
    • contact can be in-person, by phone, or by text
  • document all mentee interactions in Navigate

Expectations

Mentors and mentees are expected to meet a minimum of four times throughout the semester. Some of those will be structured workshops while others will be more informal meetings.
