Professional Summary:

Dr. Poreda has been involved in prehospital care for over 20 years, beginning in the volunteer fire service and as a professional EMT. This experience changed his career; he completed his Computer Science degree and immediately began his pre-med training at Univ Buffalo. During this time, Dr. Poreda continued his firefighting education at the NYS Fire Academy in Montour Falls NY, becoming a Nationally Certified Firefighter II; he is certified in various special operations disciplines as well, including TECC, HazMat, Swift Water, Ice, Confined Space, and High Angle Rope Rescue.

Dr. Poreda completed medical school at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse, NY. He stayed in Syracuse where he completed his residency in Emergency Medicine. While in residency, Dr. Poreda authored a textbook chapter for physicians on Fireground Operations and Rehab.

After finishing residency, Dr. Poreda moved back to Buffalo and began his career in private practice as an Attending Physician with Professional Emergency Services PLLC. During this time, he worked at multiple hospitals across WNY, including Millard Suburban, Buffalo General, Lake Shore, Brooks Memorial, and Medina.

In 2016, Dr. Poreda joined UBMD as a full-time faculty member in the Department of Emergency Medicine and has been working at Buffalo General since then. In 2020, he furthered his education by completing an EMS fellowship, becoming dual-boarded in Emergency Medicine and EMS. Throughout his career, Dr. Poreda has maintained strong ties to the fire service and EMS, remaining an active participant in the field. Since completing his fellowship, he has regularly lectured on various fire and EMS topics at both regional and state levels. Additionally, he has taken on leadership roles as a medical director for multiple fire and EMS agencies, overseeing over 210 EMS providers across ten different agencies that collectively handle about 11,000 EMS calls annually. He has also begun his career in fire and EMS research.
