Lema Receives Excellence in Service Award

Mark Lema, MD, PhD, professor and chair of anesthesiology at UB and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, was awarded the Excellence in Service medal by the State University of New York (SUNY)-Downstate Medical Center’s Residents and Fellows Alumni Society.

Lema received the award from John C. LaRosa, MD, president of SUNY-Downstate Medical School at the resident/fellow graduates’ reception held at the New York Marriott Hotel, Brooklyn Bridge.

The award was bestowed upon only two physicians recognized for their accomplishments in medical careers devoted to excellence in clinical training and advocacy for safe medical practices.

Lema graduated from Downstate in 1982 and completed his anesthesiology training at Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women’s Hospital in 1985. He has been the UB chair of anesthesiology since 1999 and the Roswell chair since 1987.
