Gale R. Burstein, MD, MPH, clinical associate professor of pediatrics, has been appointed Erie County health commissioner.

She succeeds Anthony J. Billittier IV, MD, clinical assistant professor of emergency medicine, who served in this role from 2000 to 2010.

Burstein, who works in UB’s Division of Adolescent Medicine, is affiliated with Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.

She also is medical director for the Erie County Department of Health’s sexually transmitted disease clinic.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz announced Burstein’s appointment Dec. 28.
