The Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences had a strong showing at this year’s American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Foundation Annual Meeting in Indianapolis. The October event highlighted research, best practices, and clinical advancements, with otolaryngologists and specialists from around the world attending.
Students, residents and attending physicians from the Department of Otolaryngology participated in 24 oral presentations and eight poster presentations, ran a medical student competition, and organized a simulation lab session. UB had the largest medical student contingent at the national meeting, according to Michele M. Carr, MD, PhD, clinical professor of otolaryngology and attending physician, highlighting the commitment to producing research that’s national-level quality.
Such widespread involvement underscores the department’s engagement on the national stage and its dedication to research, education and moving the field forward. UB participants included 12 medical students, two residents, and several attending physicians. Two rotating students without home otolaryngology programs also participated under the Jacobs School.
At the meeting, PGY-3 otolaryngology resident Nicole Favre, MD, was awarded “Best of Orals” in the plastic surgery category for her presentation titled “Adherence to Bell’s Palsy Clinical Practice Guidelines: A Nationwide Retrospective Analysis.”
Carr chaired the Pediatric Otolaryngology Annual Meeting subcommittee, overseeing its organization for more than 5,000 attendees from around the world.
Jacobs School medical students who presented at the meeting included Daniel Adelsberg, Amanda Baanante, Alexandra Corbin, Murilo de Santana Hager, Ryan Dewan, Chinelo Eruchalu, Erin Gawel, Paula Valeria Guerro-Navarro, Alexa Ibrahim, Katelin Keenehan, Grace Maley, and Josh Sorrentino.
