Learning Objectives: Feel confident in your ability to provide culturally-competent, evidence-based care to the LGBTQ+ population, Use appropriate language and terms with respect to our LGBTQ+ patients, Examine the many barriers, obstacles, and previous experiences that our LGBTQ+ patients have experienced, Recognize the importance of our interactions with younger patients who are first discovering and seeking to understand their sexuality, Acknowledge the need of routine gynecologic care, including family planning and STD services for all patients regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation, Examine the main aspects of trauma-informed care and fee comfortable incorporating this into your practice routine, Develop the patient-physician relationship and gain the patient’s confidence and collaboration, appreciating that many factors can affect overall health and the shared decision-making process, including the following: 1. Sexual Preference/Orientation, 2. Gender Identity, 3. Sexual Health: Use a positive and respectfully inclusive approach to patients regarding gender identity and sexual preference including gender-affirming care, 4. Trauma and Abuse: Understand and describe techniques to provide trauma-informed care during evaluation of a patient.
