The Amin Tjota, MD, PhD ’91­, Melawati Yuwono, MD, and Tjota Family Advanced Procedures Suite is named by the Tjota family in honor of the late Dr. Amin Tjota.

Dr. Tjota was a loving husband; devoted father, son, and brother; great friend; perceptive mentor; and skilled storyteller. After losing his mother at a young age, he set his sights on making a difference in the world of medicine. While completing his medical degree in Germany, he met the love of his life: Dr. Melawati Yuwono. Together, they moved to the United States, arriving in Buffalo, N.Y., where Dr. Tjota completed his PhD at Roswell Park and Dr. Yuwono completed her residency and fellowship at UB. The couple had four children: Patrick, Melissa, Nicole and Natalie 21’­.

The family hopes that the surgical suite will carry out Dr. Tjota’s legacy by supporting the education of students and giving them the tools and space to learn, perfect and apply skills to save lives and train future generations.
