Looking to connect a device to the UB Devices or UB Connect networks at UB? Make sure to turn off the Private Wi-Fi Address setting first to prevent you from having to continuously re-register your device.
When connecting to UB Devices or UB Connect, you will need to provide your device’s MAC Address, a 12-digit number assigned to each device connected to a network.
The Private Wi-Fi Address setting controls when a device is assigned a new MAC address. This setting supports three operating modes (off, fixed, or rotating), selectable on a per-network basis.
In order to connect and stay connected to UB Devices or UB Connect, UB community members should have their Private Wi-Fi Address feature turned off.
This is mostly important for Apple devices, but having this setting on can also disrupt connectivity for Android 8.0 and Windows 11 devices.
Changing this setting will not affect your current or future connection to eduroam Wi-Fi.
Turning off this setting stops your devices from generating a new, random MAC address each time you want to connect to UB Devices or UB Connect, preventing you from having to continuously re-register your device with each new MAC Address.
By having this setting off, once your device’s MAC Address is initially registered to these networks, you will automatically connect to these networks while on campus.
UBIT’s website has step-by-step instructions detailing how you can turn off MAC Address randomization when connecting to UB Devices or UB Connect with your device through the Private Wi-Fi address setting.
